Leaves – Love ‘em & Leave ‘em

Find out all about it at http://www.leleny.org/
Celebrate Trees!
Trees are our best Stormwater “managers” –
taking up water through roots
& sending water back up through leaves.
NYSDEC is sponsoring two Arbor Day Contests!
2020 Arbor Day Poster Contest:
Submit your artwork or photo featuring trees in New York State
Deadline for submission is December 31, 2021

4th and 5th Grade Arbor Day Artwork Contest:
This year’s theme is “healthy trees – healthy people!”
Posters must be received by December 10, 2021
For details, go to https://www.dec.ny.gov/education/25420.html
Speaking of trees… October is Firewood Month:
Follow the NYS Firewood Regulation to Help Protect New York's Trees
When building your fire at home or at campgrounds, use wood from a
source within 50 linear miles, or use heat-treated firewood.
Firewood can hide invasive species, like spotted lanternfly
or Asian longhorned beetle.
Movement of firewood may be one of the major ways
the emerald ash borer was able to infest counties in New York.

Fall Holiday Season...time to compost!
When all the trick-or-treating is done, compost that pumpkin!
And don’t forget to compost those Thanksgiving food scraps too.
