The Ardsley Police Department would like to make the residents aware of a recent scam regarding Facebook Marketplace. There has been an uptick in scams regarding items being posted for sale.

A scammer may request that you put down a deposit or send payment in advance in order to secure the item. Once receiving payment, the seller will then delete their account and buyers will be left with nothing in return.

This is a reminder to never submit payment before receiving an item. If the seller pressures you or is adamant you must pay in advance, it is most likely a scam.

These incidents can be reported directly to Facebook. On listings you will see a drop down menu with a “Report Listing” option.
